DEERFIELD BEACH, FL — A teen motorcyclist and a child were killed Saturday night in a violent crash in Deerfield Beach that sent several others to the hospital, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the collision happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard. The crash involved a 2017 Nissan Sentra and a 2022 Suzuki GSX-R570 motorcycle.
Authorities said the motorcycle rider, 18-year-old Maxwell Patel of Parkland, died at the scene. A juvenile girl riding in the Nissan later died at Broward Health Medical Center.
Deputies say the Nissan began a U turn in the turn lane
According to BSO, the Nissan was headed east in the left-turn lane when the driver started a U-turn to travel west. At the same time, Patel was riding westbound on the motorcycle.
The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Nissan, and the impact caused the car to flip over, investigators said. The force of the crash made it one of the most serious traffic scenes in the area that evening.
BSO has not said whether impairment, speed, or any other factor played a role. The agency’s account so far focuses on the path of both vehicles immediately before impact.
Maxwell Patel died at the scene after the motorcycle hit the car
Patel was identified by deputies as the rider of the Suzuki. He was pronounced dead where the crash occurred, ending what investigators described as a deadly collision on a busy stretch of Hillsboro Boulevard.
The teenager was from Parkland, just west of Deerfield Beach. Deputies did not release any additional details about where he was headed or whether he was wearing protective gear.
His death came as first responders worked through a scene that left multiple patients needing urgent treatment. The crash added to a night of severe injuries for everyone inside both vehicles.
A juvenile girl in the Nissan died later at Broward Health Medical Center
A juvenile girl who was riding inside the Nissan was taken to Broward Health Medical Center after the crash. Hospital staff later pronounced her dead, according to BSO.
Her death was one of several serious outcomes tied to the wreck. Deputies said multiple other people in the Nissan were injured and required transport to area hospitals.
The girl’s name was not released. Authorities have not publicly identified the other victims in the vehicle or said how they were related to one another.
Other passengers were rushed to two Broward hospitals
The Nissan’s adult female driver and a juvenile boy were taken to Broward Health North after the crash. Deputies said the boy was later airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center.
Three other passengers, including two adults and another juvenile, were also transported to Broward Health Medical Center. BSO said two surviving juveniles were in critical condition.
The agency did not provide a full accounting of each person’s injuries, but the hospital transfers show how many people were affected by the collision. Emergency crews had to split care across more than one facility.
Broward County investigators continue sorting out the crash sequence
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency investigating what happened on West Hillsboro Boulevard. For now, deputies have released only a basic timeline and vehicle movement description.
That includes the eastbound Nissan entering a U-turn and the motorcycle traveling westbound before the two collided. The car then overturned after the impact, according to investigators.
Officials have not announced charges or said whether the case remains under review for traffic or criminal findings. They also have not said when additional information may be released.
