The basketball season has tipped off here at Greer High. The Lady and Men Jackets have gotten their season underway and both are off to a great start. The Men Jackets are 3-1 with big wins over Carolina (Twice) and White Knoll. The Lady Jackets have won games against Carolina (Twice), Blacksburg, and White Knoll to give them a 4-2 start.
The Lady Jackets led by senior Jenna Sudduth who recently scored her 1000th career point in high school against Blacksburg, have gotten off to a fast start. Jenna states “Although I will miss playing basketball for Greer High, I’m thankful for everything I’ve learned in my 4 years here. I’m thankful for all my coaches and my teammates who have made me the player I am today. If I could say one thing it would be I love Greer High.#GreerHighTillIDie” Jenna joins 2 other seniors as Campbell Cox and Ashtyn Clark are also graduates this year. The team is in good hands as younger players have started to shine this season. Sophomore Amiyah Clark-Lamelle is preparing to lead the team as Jenna gets ready to graduate. “The senior girls have been great to me and have shown me the ropes since I was a freshman. Although I will miss them, I’m ready to take control of the team and also take that step that is necessary to be the captain and do what Jenna Ashtyn and Campbell did for me.” Also another rising star sophomore Jalasia Lewis will also be set to lead alongside Amiyah next year. Jalasia says “I’m grateful for my senior captains but I’m ready to handle the responsibilities it takes being an older player and helping the younger girls in making us a winning team. I’m ready to be a leader and excited for what the future brings,” The girls have upcoming games against Woodmont and Blue Ridge.
The Boys Basketball team has gotten off to a fast start as they are 3-1, and are looking for a promising season. Coach Liferidge and company are ready to take the upstate by storm. With transfer star Mark Fraiser II, the Jackets are hoping he can lead them to a deep playoff run. Mark says “I think the boys have a lot of potential this season. We’re working hard in practice every day. Thanks to Coach Liferidge and the senior leadership, I think we’re headed in the right direction. I’m not focused on my fast start as much as I’m focused on keeping my hot hand going. I think we really have the potential to shock the state.” Another senior leading the team this year is SF Izzy Rhodes. Izzy is a 3 sport star who is excited to return to the court after dominating the field as he was selected for the South Carolina All State Team in football. “I mean we’re 4-1 right now and I really think we can keep this momentum going.”
