Greer High’s New 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year: Ms. Barbare!
November 21, 2019
Congrats to Birdie Barbare for winning Teacher of the Year 19-20! To get further insight on how she feels, we interviewed her.
- Why do you think you were nominated? “As a PE teacher, I have tried my best to change the program to improve and increase student’s physical fitness, to improve their character-building components, social skills, and knowledge of the game’s culture and historical background.”
- How do you feel about representing Greer High School? “I feel very humbled and honored to represent GHS. It means a lot to even be nominated let alone winning it. When I was a student here, I always dreamed of coming back to teach, and now that I’m back, it’s surreal.”
- Were you caught off guard by winning? “I was! I work very hard and try my best, but we have some of the best teachers at this school, that I think very highly of, and I voted for, so I definitely did not expect to win over all of the other amazing teachers.”
Mr. Ludley commented on Barbare’s win:
“Ms. Barbare is an exceptional teacher who deserves to be recognized and celebrated for all of her hard work and dedication to Greer High School. She has greatly contributed to the Greer High Physical Education Department and is a joy to work with. Ms. Barbare goes above and beyond for her students and dedicates a lot of her time to assist with the volleyball and basketball teams. Ms. Barbare is more than deserving of this award and recognition.”
Congratulations Coach Barbare. We are so proud of you!
