GREER– Greer High School’s Virtual Enterprise (VE) Team finished 4th in the nation at the Virtual Enterprise Youth Business Summit that was held April 16-18 in New York.

The firm, H to O, competed in multiple business competitions and participated in the International Trade Show, which was comprised of 170 schools from nine different countries. The VE team qualified for New York by winning the SC State Business Plan Competition in February.  They were then invited to compete in Nationals last week in New York.

Out of 584 VE firms located in high schools from all across the country, the top 28 made it to the National Business Plan Competition by winning their state or regional competition. Of the Top 28 competing in Nationals, they recognized the Top 16, which included Greer High’s VE team. Of the Top 16, 6, including Greer High made it to the Championship Round to present in front of a large audience and judges from across the business landscape.

Mr. Redd, the classes teacher and sponsor said, “I am so proud of this year’s VE team and all the hard work they put in throughout the year to get to this point.”

For those unfamiliar with VE and what the VE class does, here is a short list:

  • Begin the year by assigning roles within the class (i.e. CEO, HR Director, Director of Marketing, etc.)
  • Start a business from the ground up and run the day-to-day operations of that business.
  • Write a 25+ page business plan.
  • Create a 10 minute presentation to go along with the business plan.
  • Make sales calls to other VE firms to build relationships and get sales.
  • Some of the business documents/products they create throughout the year are:
    • Website
    • Newsletter
    • Product Catalog
    • Promotional Flyers
    • Commercial

The following students are members of this year’s VE team and all of them played a major role in helping reach the success level they had: Laura Brown, Emma Durfee, Brady Henderson, Chris Quinn, Emily Jordan, Kamille Bush, Aliah Geesey, Ivey Bennett and Matthew Huff. In addition to doing amazing in the business plan competition, Kamille Bush placed 5th out of 47 entries in the HR (human resources) Competition.

Students also experienced New York City while they attended the competition. They saw the Broadway show, Aladdin, saw a Yankees game, and went to the top of the Empire State Building.
