COLUMBIA–The Virtual Enterprise (VE) class competed in the state business plan competition against schools from across the state this past week in Columbia, SC.  After writing a 20+ page business plan and submitting that to New York to be judged, the class created a presentation and presented their business to industry professionals.  The written portion accounted for 50% of their score and the oral presentation accounted for 50%.  The Greer High School team took first place.  This is the third year in a row that Greer’s VE, led by teacher Bradley Redd, won state.
After the presentation, Mr. Redd spoke to the judges and said, “They were extremely impressed with how professional students displayed themselves, with one judge even asking if I recruited these kids from a local college to come present.”
The students in this years VE class have worked extremely hard in preparing for this competition and now plan to work even harder in preparing for the National Business Plan Competition, which will be a part of the Youth Business Summit being held April 15-19 in New York. One of  the team members said yesterday, “I don’t want to just go to New York!  I want to win Nationals!”
Their business this year is ‘Hydration to Others’, or ‘H to O’.  Their idea is to sell reusable water bottles, with a percentage of the profits going towards building water purification systems in developing countries that don’t have access to clean water.
