GREER — The Greer High School Wrestling Team fell to JL Mann High School, 33-21, Thursday night at Greer High School.

Winners for the Yellow Jackets were Sophomore Gabriel Brown, Freshman Avery Porter, Junior Gabriel Rice and Senior Jordan Hawthorne.

Brown earned a hard-fought 4-2 decision at 138 pounds. Porter claimed a forfeit at 152 pounds, while Rice pinned his opponent in the second period at 182 pounds. Hawthorne ran his season record to 3-0 with a pin in the first period.

Peeler is pleased to see that the Yellow Jackets are consistently progressing with each match. “We made some mistakes that cost us a match or two, and we’re still waiting to get everyone into a more advantageous weight class, but I thought the effort was great,” Peeler said “We’ve had some adversity and let downs to overcome, and we give up points because we can’t fill every weight class, but it is a credit to the kids who are out there that they fight tooth and nail to be great representatives of our program and our school.”

The Yellow Jackets (1-2) will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the Woodmont High School Duals. Friday’s matches begin at 4:00 p.m., while Saturday’s matches will begin at 8:00 a.m.
